TOEFL Speaking Task four: feedback

Hi, peeps, let's look at this response and learn why it did not score high.
TOEFL speaking

There are several issues with this response, the most glaring being vagueness and an illogical progression of ideas. These problems are primarily caused by grammar mistakes in number agreement and ambiguous antecedents. These are the problem areas:

  1.  "The hummingbird has an amazing memory. They are not only...", it's unclear who "they" refers to. It should be "hummingbirds are" or "it is" .

  2. Repeating the same sentence structure twice can be improved by using "as well as" instead of "not only but also."

  3. “the flower" implies a specific flower, but you mean flowers in general, it should be "flowers are."

  4. "visited them and how quickly they fell in nectar" is ambiguous because the antecedent of they are not the same.  The first "they" should refer to flowers and the second "they" should refer to hummingbirds.

  5. The phrase "in this small sized brain" lacks clarity as "this" doesn't connect to anything mentioned earlier.

  6. More detail is needed on the Atlantic puffin's migration pattern to understand why they spend 8 months at sea.

  7. “alone" does not make sense since migration of birds implies moving in groups.

  8. “but" doesn't connect properly in the context provided.

  9. "mate with the other mates" lacks clarity regarding which mates are being referred to and how many there are. How many different birds do they mate?

  10. “they do that by watching Boffins" is absolutely hilarious since, due to the previous sentence, "do that" should mean mating with many other mates. So basically, it means that the birds are engaging in an orgy by watching Boffins.

  11.  "other species to figure out…" absolutely does not make sense

Overall, these issues make the response very unclear and inaccurate due to potential misinterpretation. The response also spends too much time discussing irrelevant elements instead of directly addressing the content and providing comprehensive and accurate information. At the end of listening to this response, a listener will have no idea what even the two special skills are, let alone how the skills are elaborated. A better approach would be to clearly state the two special abilities and provide examples to illustrate them like this:

Birds possess two remarkable abilities: exceptional memory skills and adept directional abilities. To exemplify these skills, let's consider hummingbirds and Atlantic puffins....
